In 2001 I launched my first business as a wedding photographer under the name Laura Hannah Photography (my maiden name). Weddings taught me to think & shoot fast, cooperate with all kinds of personalities, and deliver a beautiful product.
When I had my second beautiful baby in 2011, though, I was tired. I shut down my website and went home to nurture my growing family. However I found my clients never look at my website, they just text! All my beautiful brides were having families of their own and requested me for portraits. Gradually, my little out-of-the-house weekender job turned into a full scale portrait studio, Reese & Co Portraits, with employees and big girl overhead.
And oh my, it was overwhelming.
Efficiency became my real job. I love the art of photography, but I also love my family time and desired a business that worked for me instead of the reverse. I combed through each part of the business asking two questions: 1. Does this serve my client? and 2. Is this the most effective way to run my business?
Today, Reese & Co stays busy, runs smoothly and allows me the time I need to rest and get back home to my beautiful kids! Now I love to share the lessons learned and the hurtles we overcame, both as a studio owner and at home, as mama.
